Rachel de Cock
Rachel originally studied classical viola, piano and singing at the Purcell Music School and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Since then, she has enjoyed a varied career as a professional vocalist, composer, arranger, session musician and producer in the fields of Classical, Rock, Pop and Dance Music.
She has worked under conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, and collaborated with artists that include; members of the BBC Singers, Rev Hammer, New Model Army, Faye Rochelle, Darryl Way and Matthew Bellamy. Her live performances have taken her to France, Germany, South Africa, and throughout the UK. Venues performed at include; The Purcell Room at the South Bank Centre, De Montfort Hall, St Davids Hall in Cardiff, Soho Review Bar, Brighton Fringe Festival and she also held a three-year residency (2004 - 2006) at Bartók, a classical music bar in Chalk Farm Road, Camden.
In 2005 she premiered the vocal cantata, Stargazing, at St Ethelburga's Centre for Reconciliation and Peace in Bishopsgate, and her recording of the work was featured on BBC Radio London. Rachel has also made various radio and TV appearances and written music for independent films, including one which was premiered at The Cannes Film Festival in 2006. She has released her own original material on the EIAG record label and her string arrangements, viola playing and vocals have been featured on releases by Attack Attack Records, Cooking Vinyl, V2 Records and Cherry Red Records.
As a solo artist and composer, her music stretches from emotive ballads to rocking electro pop and cinematic soundscapes. Her evocative vocal lines and lyrics are inspired by life, art and the fantastical. Rachel is also a part of the electro pop / acoustic duo, Every Inch a Gentleman, with her musical partner in crime and husband Jay DC.
She currently lives in the Brighton area, UK, where she teaches singing and continues her various other musical projects. Rachel is a part of 'Brighton Music Lessons' and also tutors various workshops/schools and ensembles in the area.
